BER Estimator
What BER is my house — and which single upgrade moves it most?
Ireland has among the highest radon levels in Europe, and the EPA attributes hundreds of lung-cancer cases a year to it. This checker uses the public EPA radon mapping to show the risk for your county, factors in how your home’s age and layout affect exposure, and gives you an honest plain-English path — test first, then remediate only if you need to.

Radon is a colourless, odourless radioactive gas that seeps up from the ground and can build up indoors, especially in ground-floor and basement rooms. The EPA maps radon risk by area, but a map only tells you the odds — the level in your specific house depends on its construction, ventilation and how it sits on the ground. Two homes on the same road can measure very differently.
That’s why this tool is deliberate about the sequence: your county is only an indication, and the only way to know your own home is a test. It gates the contractor step behind an actual measurement rather than pushing remediation on the strength of a map — you test with a simple kit first, and only remediate if the result warrants it.

Yes. Ireland has some of the highest radon levels in Europe, and the EPA links it to hundreds of lung-cancer cases each year. Some counties are notably higher risk than others.
Not necessarily. A map gives the odds, but your home’s actual level depends on its construction and ventilation. The only way to know is to test your own house.
Radon can usually be reduced with proven remediation such as a sump or improved ventilation. The tool only points you to remediation once a test shows you need it.
